WHITEHOUSE ISD EXPLAINS CHANGE IN THE LENGTH OF THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL DAY FOR STUDENTS

House Bill (HB) 2610 passed by the 84th Texas Legislature replaced the requirement for 180 days of instruction each school year to now require 75,600 minutes of instruction each school year.  Due to the passage of HB 2610, WISD made the decision to move to a 176 student day calendar for 2016-2017.  This allows the district to implement an additional day of staff development for teachers and staff.

The 176 student day calendar does require the district to lengthen the school day at the elementary campuses, the Holloway Sixth Grade Campus and the Jr. High Campus to meet the required 75,600 minutes.  By lengthening the school day, students will not be required to makeup 2 bad weather days should the district have to close for 2 days due to unforeseen circumstances.

The new school day time for 2016-17 is as follows:

All Elementary Schools:   8:00 – 3:15

Holloway Sixth Grade Campus: 8:00 – 3:15

Whitehouse Jr. High: 7:55 – 3:10

Whitehouse High School will also increase the length of the school day to accommodate their new lunch schedule for the upcoming school year.

Whitehouse High School: 7:50 – 3:25
