Holloway 6th Grade Students donate over 300 "Because We Care" bags to local cancer patients

“You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving. The great acts of love are done by those who are habitually performing small acts of kindness. We pardon to the extent that we love. Love is knowing that even when you are alone, you will never be lonely again. & great happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved. Loved for ourselves. & even loved in spite of ourselves.”

Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

3 Holloway students have to decided to do just that,  by giving to those who have to face something that strikes fear in all of our hearts: Cancer.

For the last two years, 6th grade math teacher at Holloway 6th grade campus, Tiffany McFadden has been spearheading a drive with her National Elementary Honor Society students to create “Because We Care” bags for chemotherapy patients in the Tyler area.  The collected bags will be donated to Tyler Oncology for delivery to cancer patients in Tyler medical facilities.

“Lots of kids have given, but these 3 have definitely done the most,” says Tiffany McFadden as she introduces Brian Kelley, Emely Guevara, and Alex Bailey who collectively have brought in over 300 of these “Because We Care” bags.

“I just wanted to do this because I know people personally who have gone through cancer treatment, so it’s kind of personal.” - Alex Bailey (Donated 50 bags)

“I’ve seen little kids who have had to go through this and it just really makes you think.” - Emely Guevara (Donated 30 bags)

“I gave one of my bags to someone who had breast cancer and she told me the items really helped her.” - Brian Kelley (Donated 266 bags)

Whitehouse ISD is proud to call these students Wildcats and we are so grateful for their outpouring of love to those in need.
