Great Nights make Great Days

Dear Parents,

This holiday season our Cain Elementary is participating in a pajama drive to benefit children living in shelters.  Scholastic Book Clubs will MATCH every new pair of pajamas our school collects with a brand-new book in order to give children in need a warm and reassuring bedtime.

Cain Elementary wants to be part of this drive so that we can help make a better bedtime for children.  Together we can help the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive reach even more children through the magical gifts of pajamas and storybooks.  If you and your child are able to participate, please help us transform bedtime for an at-risk child by bringing a new pair of pajamas to school by Monday, December 11th

Here are some simple guidelines for the pajamas:

  • Pajamas must be brand-new.  Pajamas in all sizes are needed  from newborn to adult.
  • Pajamas must be in complete sets or nightgowns.
  • Pajamas in children’s sizes must be manufactured as pajamas  this ensures that they are flame-retardant and safe.

Thank you for helping us share the gift of a good night’s sleep and a sweet bedtime story.  After all, good nights make good days.

Every child deserves to get ready for bed with a warm pair of pajamas and a good book!.

Whooping cough diagnosis at Cain Elementary

We have recently learned that a student in your child's school has been diagnosed with Pertussis (Whooping Cough) during Thanksgiving break. While this student did not have any symptoms at school before the break, the decision was made to notify parents and guardians.

Although most school age children have had the vaccine, there remains a small risk for contracting the virus. If contracted, vaccinated children normally have a less severe case of pertussis than a child that has not been vaccinated.

The initial symptoms of this highly infectious virus are cold-like symptoms with a mild fever, runny nose, and cough. After 7-10 days, the cold-like symptoms begin to fade and the coughing becomes worse. As a result of inflammation and narrowed airways, the cough is a dry, hacking cough producing periods of uncontrollable coughing which makes breathing difficult for the child. It may take several weeks for your child to completely recover from Pertussis.

Congratulations Majorettes!

Congratulations to the Whitehouse Majorettes for their outstanding performances at the UIL Twirling Solo and Ensemble Contest in Bullard Wednesday, October 25th.
