Brown, Cain, Higgins and Stanton-Smith gifted and talented students hosted their first ever Film Festival which was a culmination of their “Lights, Camera, Action!” study. Students produced their own movies which involved, script writing, acting, filming, directing, designing scenes and props, editing video and audio clips, promoting their movie and creating sound effects. Families were invited to a movie premiere night at each elementary campus where the G/T students served refreshments (Coke and popcorn of course!), signed autographs and encouraged fans to take pictures with the “stars” from the films at the photo booth. All four Film Festivals were huge hits! Watch out Hollywood – Whitehouse has some talent!

On February 28, the Gus Winston Cain Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society inducted 38 fourth and fifth graders.
Along with other chapters in schools across the nations, the Gus W. Cain Chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, responsibility, service, and leadership. No student becomes a member simply because of good grades. The National Elementary Honor Society recognizes the total student- one who excels in all of these areas. The standards used for selection were the following: Scholarship- 93% or better cumulative average for two semesters and Responsibility, Service and Leadership- as demonstrated by activities at home, at school, and in the community.
The East Texas Fair Academic Rodeo is a competitive event that is open to public, private and home schools across the entire East Texas area. The mix of academic and fine arts contests range from individual to group opportunities and from presentation opportunities to written contests; and in return, allows children’s gifts and talents to be promoted. Whitehouse ISD Elementary schools entered six of the events: Art, Mathletics, Mindset Breaking Experience, Science Fair, Writing and Youth Fashion Show with the help of the Academic Rodeo sponsors, Keri Baskin and Ashley Whitman. Individual events such as Art, Science Fair, Writing and Youth Fashion Show required students to compete at a campus level first.
