To the Stakeholders of Whitehouse ISD:

As I drive to work every morning and see countless cars and school buses delivering our students from home to school, I ask myself, “What thoughts are going through the minds of our students prior to the beginning of the school day? How do they transition between home and school?”

As parents, how would we define our home? Is it a place of refuge, a place where love abounds and where time is spent harvesting the fruit of healthy relationships? Is it a place where we take the time to help each other with whatever needs that we might have? Should the home be a place where you will find love, discipline, order, honesty, hope, laughter, nourishment, kindness, and safety?

Wait a minute; am I asking about the home or the school? Should the school be a place where you find love, discipline, order, encouragement, laughter, nourishment, kindness, and safety? I say the answer is yes! When our students enter the schoolhouse doors, should they feel that they have just entered a refuge, a home away from home? When our faculty, staff, and guests enter the schoolhouse doors, should they feel the same? I sincerely hope that the answer is yes!

WISD is preparing for a strong finish to the 2011-2012 school year. It is an extremely busy time of year for everyone. Our students and faculty are working hard to prepare for the implementation of the new assessment entitled the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). STAAR is replacing the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) system for current 9th grade students and below. TAKS will remain in place for the current 10th grade class and above.

With all of the demands that are placed upon our students, teachers, and support personnel, it is absolutely amazing to see all of the positive interaction that takes place on all of our campuses. Please continue to monitor our interactive calendar at www.whitehouseisd.org for various events and activities that are planned for our students.
