MARATHON CATS RUNNING CLUB
Never doubt, our Brown Elementary Wildcats are "Small BUT Mighty"! During our recent Marathon Cats Running Club program, Brown students logged a total of 3678.6 miles. That’s like running to California and back! Marathon Cats is an 8-week running program whereby our students run laps around our field to increase their cardiovascular fitness and earn awards. A trophy, pedometer, and certificate were awarded to each of our high milers in each grade level. Congratulations to all our student award recipients and also to June Pendergrass, our high miler teacher! Way to go Brown Students!
HIGGINS 5TH GRADE FUN FEST
The fabulous fifth grade students at Higgins were treated to an end of the year fun fest by their teachers and parents on Friday May 24th. Fifth grade teachers and parent volunteers designed a fun filled morning of activities and games for all to participate in. Activities included cookie walk, Coke ring toss, Hawaiian hula hoop contest, snow cones, toilet paper toss, prime duck pond, and a silly summer picture booth. It was a great way to end an awesome year for the 5th graders at Higgins Elementary. Thanks for all who helped make this such a success.

BROWN ELEMENTARY FAMILY NIGHT
Brown Elementary hosted its second annual “Family Night Field Day” last Thursday. Sounds of “Spiderman”, “Walk the Dinosaur” and “Gitchee Gitchee Goo” filled the gym as the evening began with each grade level showing off cardio dances they learned in PE class this year. Fifth grade led the crowd in the wildly fun “Peanut Butter Jelly Time”. After the dancing fun, our annual family dodge ball game began. Not sure if the parents or kids won, but all had a great time! Families also enjoyed the activities from our field day including the ever popular, Tug-Of –War. Thanks to all of the families who came and supported our event.

4TH GRADE ROUNDUP AT HIGGINS ELEMENTARY
On May 17 Higgins hosted the 4th Grade annual Roundup Day. This included all the fourth graders from Whitehouse ISD. We had many people come from our community to donate a day for our young students.
There were multiple stations that the students visited on this day. We had a fire pit going where the kids branded a big “W” onto a piece of wood. We had horses to pet, archery, butter churning, a group of ladies playing dulcimers and other instruments, line dancing, story telling, square dancing, zoo entertainment, horseshoes, the bee man, picture frame making, pictures taken, game playing and roping.
As always, we could not have made this happen if we did not have many volunteers to run the stations. We want to extend a Texas sized thank you to all the many volunteers that gave us a day filled with fun. Higgins looks forward to hosting this event next year in 2014.
