WJHS RECOGNIZES HIGH ACHIEVEMENT
Whitehouse Jr. High School held their annual Academic Awards Ceremony on May 9, 2013 in Nix Gym. Among the awards given included the Rotary Young Citizens Award sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tyler and the Ralph Spence Award sponsored by the Tyler YMCA. The Rotary Young Citizen Award honors one young man and one young woman who represent exceptional values of citizenship, cleanliness, thriftiness, loyalty, courtesy, honesty, service dependability, sportsmanship, scholarship, and leadership. The 2013 Rotary award winners for WJHS are Emiline Rose and Arbab Ahmed. The 2013 Ralph Spence Award winners are Jacob Clemons, Tess Hamilton, Kailey Clarke, and Clayton Cole. These outstanding young women and young men were selected based on

National Merit Semifinalist
PENNIES FOR PASTA
Whitehouse Jr. High students participated in the “Pennies’ for Pasta” program that collects money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) which is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to fighting blood cancers. Survival rates for children with acute lymphocytic leukemia, the most common childhood cancer, have risen over the past 60 years from 3 percent to nearly 90 percent. With continued support from caring and committed individuals, LLS can continue to fund research to find a cure for blood cancers and realize the goal of 100 percent survival! The contest was between the students in all Advisory classes. Coach Shari Knight’s class won with a total of $756.62 and the total collected by the school was $4205.35. Way to go WILDCATS!!!!

BROWN ELEMENTARY "KEEP WHITEHOUSE BEAUTIFUL"
With 46 volunteers,Brown Elementary was the largest group at the Keep Whitehouse Beautiful Trash-Off. NEHS, Students Council, Clean Up Crew, parents and teachers filled bags with all kinds of garbage. It was a great day to celebrate our community!
AROUND THE WORLD AT BROWN ELEMENTARY
Brown Elementary hosted the 5th annual Around the World at Brown Elementary: International Day. Students and their families participated in sharing cultures and countries from around the world. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about different places and to ask questions too! The 5th graders incorporated their knowledge of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and symbols to show younger students. They also brought personal Items from where their families had traveled. These items came from as far away as Alaska and Hawaii and as close as Austin, Texas. It was a great success for all.
