The Whitehouse ISD Board of Trustees approved policy that will allow board authorized personnel only to possess a concealed firearm while on campus. At a special called meeting Monday, May 18th, the board addressed school safety and approved the Guardian Plan. WISD believes everyone has the right to a safe and caring environment. The Guardian Plan will ensure an effective and timely response to emergency situations. In Texas there are just over 1,000 school districts and more than 30% of those currently authorize employees to carry a firearm according to a 2018 survey by the Texas Association of School Boards.
The WISD Board of Trustees will host a special board meeting on Monday, May 18th to consider the Guardian Plan.
Zoom meeting information can be found on the School Board page under Minutes and Agenda. Meeting time begins at 6pm.
At the School Board Meeting on May 11th, Whitehouse ISD announced its grade modification plan due to COVID-19. Although district staff and administrators did a fantastic job of connecting students to the internet, providing technology for online work, and providing online instruction, there are still some students who for various reasons were unable to participate with online learning. The plan below provides both grace and accountability in calculating the fourth nine weeks average. Several plans from other districts were vetted by WISD staff prior to developing this plan. This plan provides incentive to those students who are engaged with online learning.
