Whitehouse Independent School District

Welcome to the Visual Arts at Whitehouse High School

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people. Unfortunately, that’s too rare a commodity. A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have lots of dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solution without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.” –Steve Jobs, CEO Apple Inc.

A little bit about me: I have an Associates of Art degree in English from San Jacinto College; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Historical Studies and a Master of Arts degree in Applied Design and Visual Arts, both from the University of Houston, Clear Lake, where I also earned my teaching certificate. I have also attended educator forums at Savannah College of Art and Design, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State University, Texas Christian University, Rice University, Ringling College of Art and Design, and International Fine Arts College, Miami, advancing my educational foundation. I am very involved in Texas Art Education having served in several state level positions with Texas Art Education Association.

I have presented workshops numerous times at the state conference as well as for Region 7 ESC. I believe a fine arts education is an integral part of educating the whole child and should be an active experience at every level of education.

I have been teaching 30 years, and am in my 17th year at WHS. I am married and have four teenage daughters. I thoroughly enjoy traveling and experiencing life to the fullest with my husband and daughters. There is so much to be learned from experiencing and exploring the world. I am passionate about teaching and feel that is a God given gift for which I am very grateful.
