All About Ms. Tina Marie Penney

My name is Tina Marie  Penney and it is my pleasure to be your child(s) Art Teacher at Whitehouse Jr High Schoo! "Go WILD" Wildcats is our theme. I am a mother of three, and a grandmother of 6, I attended my undergraduate work at Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas earning an Associates Degree in Fine Arts. I attended the University of Texas at Tyler and received my Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a major in English and a minor in Art. I likewise have a certificate in Gifted and Talented Education, Technology, and Journalism. I grew up in the Kilgore, Texas area all of my life and Texas is the greatest state in the Union. All of my children live locally except for the baby son who lives outside of San Antonio, Texas and he is a Special Education Teacher, Football Coach, Basketball Coach and Track Coach for Collete Independent School District. Go "Cowboys" I am a football, volleyball and basketball fanatic! I love local, college and professional teams in all areas. I love to fish, camp, travel, go to movies, go dancing, photography, music, paint, cooking, and gardening! I love the ocean and the mountains! I am a Fall baby and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! My favorite color is Turquoise or Teal! I adore Peacocks and Puppies! If I could go anywhere in the world I would go to Italy! I have wanted to be a teacher since the 2nd grade when I meet my inspiration, Mrs. Sturm. She glowed with love and pride at us crazy second grade kids who gave her a run for her money each and every single day! She always had a smile on her face and time to listen if we needed advice. She made us feel safe to explore our creative extroverted side and to develop our talents. Mine was Art! She was an artist as well and used it in numerous ways in her teaching of all subjects. I just wanted to be just like Mrs. Sturm. She was the gift from God to me and taught me to "step outside the box", "to color outside the lines, to be unique, original and never settle for less than my best! I have never forgotten the lessons learned in Mrs. Sturms class and I hope that I can teach my students to likewise be original, to be brave enough to step outside the ordinary and strive to "think outside the box" and that "coloring outside the lines" is acceptable

The WJHS "WILDCAT"  Art Department is always looking for new ways to publish our artwork to the public both local, state, and worldwide.  With limited funds for travel expenses to take the students on field trips to Art Museums, we discovered Artsonia Online Museum.  Artsonia is the World's largest online Art Museums of student-made art in the World.  With over
3000 +countries displaying artwork from Pre-K -Senior High and Faculty as well.  Artsonia is also in partnership with Texas Education of Art Association and National Art Education Association.

Parents are given the opportunity to view their child's online portfolio, make comments and even purchase T-shirts, coffee mugs, calendars, and many more items with their child's personalized art at a reasonable price.  Any money made from the sale of the merchandise is given to the child's school for the Art Department.  Likewise, Artis a total technology based site.  The students must have a working knowledge of a digital camera, editing tools and uploading to Artsonia and managing the school's site.  The site allows collaboration between student to student and teacher to teacher.  Techniques, methods, materials, lesson plans, and objectives are available at no charge to any school, teacher or student.  For example, if a teacher gives an assignment on Van Gogh's Starry Night in Oil Pastels and they are needing visual ideas....they plug in the name of the project and choose a grade level and any projects that fit the objective will appear.   Students and teachers can access the site at school and at home and now on a Mobile App is available for download for iPhone and Android models.  With Artsonia we become a living, working, virtual reality Art Museum at our fingertips!
