Building Future Leaders
The character education program at Holloway is founded on Whitehouse ISD's Portrait of a Graduate. Each month, we focus on one of those character traits by teaching kids what each trait means, why it is important, and recognizing students who demonstrate that trait at any given time during the month. Those character traits include:

October - Responsibility
November - Self-Director Learner
December - Humble Collaborator
January - Creative Problem Solver
February - Effective Communicator
March - Adaptable
April - Confident
In addition to The Portrait of a Graduate, Holloway uses several different tools to help our students develop into successful leaders of the future. These programs include:
- Wildcat 200 Club - Students are recognized by teachers and staff for making good choices, exhibiting positive behaviors, helping others, and demonstrating leadership. These nominations are submitted to the office and students are recognized during the morning announcements. These students get to add their paw print to the Wildcat 200 board and then receive a small prize. At the end of the each semester, all students who have a paw on the board are entered into a drawing to win a gift card.
- Student of the Month- Teachers nominate students for recognition as Student of the Month. Of those nominations, one boy and one girl is selected each month and those students are recognized both during announcements and on the marquee in front of the school. They also receive a $10 gift card, compliments of Holloway PTO.
- Life Skills Training - In the fall semester, East Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (ETCADA) provides eight different weekly lessons, teaching students some valuable skills for better living. These topics include Self-Esteem, Decision-Making, Smoking Information, Advertising, Dealing With Stress, Communication Skills, Social Skills, and Assertiveness. These lessons are taught during PE classes over the course of eight weeks.
- Red Ribbon Week- During Red Ribbon Week (usually the last week in October) Holloway participates in a variety of ways. Throughout the week, we have "spirit days" where students can show their commitment to stay drug-free by participating in the different spirit days. Past examples have been "I am too cool for drugs" (wear sunglasses), "I will put a lid on drugs" (wear a hat), "Team up against drugs" (wear a jersey or team shirt), "I will sock it to drugs" (wear crazy socks), and "I declare to be drug free" (wear red). Students also sign a commitment statement on a slip of paper declaring that they will remain drug-free. These slips of paper are chained together to form a long link that is hung up in the cafeteria. Parents are encouraged to sign a commitment link as well, and those are added to the chain. Finally, an ETCADA representative is on campus one day to do a presentation on the dangers and hazards of using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.
- Duke TIP- Our students who meet the eligibility criteria are invited to participate in the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) offered through Duke University. This program recognizes students who have performed in the top 5% on their state standardized test and offers them opportunities for online and summer enrichment programs. These students can also opt to take the PSAT 8/9 to see how they compare with 8th/9th grade students across the country. The mission of Duke TIP is to cultivate a passion for learning, celebrate student abilities and achievements, and explore their academic potential.
- Girl Power- The Junior League of Tyler offers a one-day program for 6th grade girls called Girl Power. The mission of his summit is to encourage positive self-esteem, promote a healthy lifestyle, inspire volunteerism, and develop leadership potential in the 6th grade girls of Smith County. Holloway now offers this opportunity to our 6th grade girls during the month of October.
