Welcome to my class! My name is Mr. Carnes. I have been at Whitehouse High School for 12 years. I'm looking forward to a good year exploring how the world around us works.
This year I will be teaching Chemistry and Integrated Physics and Chemistry, also known as IPC. IPC is comprised of one semester of chemistry content in the fall and another semester of physics content in the spring.
Chemistry is a branch of science that deals with chemical elements and compounds and how these things work together. It is the study of the matter that makes up our bodies and everything in the world around us.
Physics is a type of science that studies energy and matter in space and time. Simply is it the study of matter and how matter interacts with other stuff. Physics, like chemistry, is dependent on mathematical calculations.
Physics and chemistry are a different type of class than many others you take. It is true that there is a more work and you have to be more responsible, but the work is very different than work in other types of classes. In a way, you are learning a new language - the language explaining the chemical and physical world around you. Both chemistry and physics teach you how to think in a different way using words, symbols, and some math. I look forward to getting to know each of you this year and watching you grow. Have a wonderful year!
