Welcome to 4th Grade! I am looking forward to a great year of learning and fun. We will be focusing on reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary as we work on different reading units throughout the year. Currently, we are reading Wonder, by R.J. Palacio! It is a fabulous, realistic fiction book that allows us to focus on point of view, theme, plot, and character development.
Students do have reading homework on Monday- Thursday nights. They need to read for 20 minutes on these nights and then write in their reading logs. They have a question to answer in their reading log for each evening. Please encourage your child to read every night for at least 20 minutes. I am hoping to instill a love for reading- and the only way to get better is to keep reading.
We will have our second Unit reading test on Monday, October 30th. This test will be over drama and biography/autobiography. We are working on reading strategies and test taking skill to help students build confidence and do well on the tests. Our next reading unit will cover nonfiction texts.
In social studies, we are finishing up our Indian unit and beginning our unit over explorers and the new world. We just had a very successful field trip on Oct. 20th for our 4th grade roundup! We learned about Texas all day and did various Texas activities. I believe a great time was had by all.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
