I am very excited to be teaching 4th grade reading and writing this year at Brown Elementary! This is my third year in Whitehouse ISD and fourth year of teaching. Although I have only been teaching in Whitehouse for a short time, I am a wildcat at heart as I attended Whitehouse schools from pre-K through twelfth grade. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in English, and I am extremely passionate about literacy! This summer my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We do not have any children as of yet, but we do have three crazy furbabies - Frank, Sophie, and Phoebe.
My love for reading and writing comes from my obsession with WORDS. By the end of the school year, my hope is that your student will come to love and treasure words with me in their own way. I strongly believe our words hold great power - they have the ability to encourage and inspire as well as harm and destroy. My passion is to teach my students that their words and other people's words matter. It is through written words that we have the opportunity to empower others as well as be empowered through the stories of others' lives and experiences. We all have a voice, and we all long to be heard. Writing gives voice to our lives and forces our world to acknowledge that voice even beyond our lifetime.
This school year I am asking you to work alongside me as we shape and prepare your child for the future together. Our children need us to work together and be on the same page. In addition to sending notes and graded work home in Tuesday folders, I will be emailing you weekly to update you on school events and what we are learning each week. Mrs. Saali, Mrs. Terry, and I will also hold parent conferences throughout the year to keep you up to date on your child's progress as well as ways you can help at home. I will also use the Class Dojo app to individually communicate with you regularly. You can download the Dojo app free on your smart phone. Sign up as a parent and use the class code in order to connect with Mrs. Saali, Ms. Phillips, and me about your child and classroom activities throughout the school year. Please do not ever hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns as they come up. The easiest forms of communication for me are email and Class Dojo.
I genuinely look forward to working with you and your child this year as we set out for success! Above all, students first!
